Quilt Update!

So I spent 12 hours both today and yesterday, plus some time before that, and I'm still just barely done with half the quilt top! It's crazy, but seeing all the blocks I've made, especially after I've ironed them, is just so awesome. Looking at those crisp, clean lines... It's worth it! My hands and back don't even hurt at all. They were a bit cramped earlier, but I just shook them around a bit and that worked like a charm.

Here's a few pictures, this one is of the fabric choices:

Batik's, a few tie dies, and white.

This below is the block I'm making. The pattern is called "Bento Box", where you make the same block but can put it in several different patterns for the finished top. Since I have so many colors, I might do one of the more random looking patterns, instead of the more organized ones. My friend is making the same block and her quilt is much more colorful. She is further along than I, and has already started sewing the top together. It's looking AMAZING! I can't wait until mine is finished!

The colors look a bit washed out, I'll have to remember to bring my nice camera to take pictures soon. I love batiks and just can't wait to see what it'll look like all put together!

Quilting!

So I mentioned my "big project" on Facebook and forgot to give any details. I asked a few friends if they were interested in starting quilts this year. One is more experienced and has been helping us start ours, and it's proving to be much easier than I thought it would be... Probably because the ironing board is right next to us instead of downstairs, encouraging me to actually iron the fabric!

I choose to go with batiks for my quilt. We're doing a pattern called "Bento Box" that shows you how to make a block that can be arranged into many different patterns. Some don't look like anything to me, and other ones look really cool.

I also am going to start knitting a TON of these Trumpet Flowers for my sisters wedding! They're really pretty, and small. It shouldn't take to long to churn out a bunch, but I've got the time anyways, it seems. I'll need to grab up some needles that size, and matching yarn for the theme, but it shouldn't cost too much except time, which I've got plenty of!

So there's my 2 big projects this year. Yes, a lap sized quilt is a big project for me! I really want it to turn out beautiful. We are zipping through, honestly. I only got most of my fabric today, and I know that I'll end up need more anyways. Especially of the white. When I sew up a few blocks, I'll post a couple of pictures of the blocks so you can see my color scheme. It's mostly batiks, with a couple of tie-dies thrown in that sort of match the batiks.

Omg Dragons!!!

So, I've been looking at this girls Deviant Art rather jealously, because she makes these amazing clay figurines and I've never been good at making stuff with clay. Well, she sells the cute adorable animals that she makes, but they're gone so fast that I don't ever see them in her shop. Especially when I forget that she is listing that day!

Well, I've decided that I can try to do some clay stuff again. While they're not good, I have a feeling that as I practice more and more, better techniques will come to me. I also will probably have to cut my nails...

I don't have any glaze, but I still absolutely love the three dragons I made today. The first one I decided will be a mothers day gift, as that one is holding a flower. She also has a star shaped brad shoved into her forehead as well. I went ahead and did a little painting on them, as well. The picture, as always, isn't great, but I plan on getting a new camera sometime soon!

Clay Dragons
YAY dragons! So cute, right???
The other two are for my boyfriend and I. Their tails are supposed to hold dice. Like when you are playing a game where you use a d20 to show how much life you have or such. So the dice won't roll around too easily. I didn't have any dice on hand while I made them, so I can only hope they fit in a way that will hold them securely.

Their eyes are all beads. The standing one has blue eyes, the laying blue has white eyes, and the green has green eyes. The standing blue is also holding a flower bead!

I'm super proud of them, yet I also hope that I will get much better in the future. It was fun doing them, so I think I'll continue making things out of clay. Probably not for sale, but for gifts and things to keep for myself. Unless I get really good at it, I guess.

I also made a pillow cover! Now, I cut out over 100 2 inch squares for a quilt. Then I realized that I needed more squares than I thought and I didn't think I would have enough. So I just started putting them together until I got a rectangle, and made a pillow cover. The seams aren't lined up, but I didn't iron the strips before sewing them together, and I think that may have made a huge difference.

I have another pillow that I plan to cover as well, and I'm debating on making another just like this one since I have enough squares too, or if I should use this weird shirt that I hate the texture of on me, but is very interesting. Maybe I could use both, actually. Maybe that's what I'll do! Anyways, here's the cover:

Quilted Pillow Cover
Fun Pillow Cover!
I hated sewing the squares together. But I love how it looks, so I'll do it again. The pillow isn't very straight in the picture, is it? I just used an old cut up tank as the back. I made it like a pillow sham, so I can stuff the pillow in. Then, if I want to wash the cover or if I want to change covers, I can take it off.

Anyways. I'm planning on making the next pillow cover tomorrow (maybe....) and I'm thinking about making myself a new purse. We'll see how it goes! I'm super glad I got to post something really crafty today!

FINALLY!!!

Yay, so my chainmaille arrived! Can't wait to get down to business with this stuff:

Since I'm home for a little bit (not sure if for a couple of minutes or an hour or two) I think I will get started on going through some baby clothes to see if I can make a quilt. There's some family problems going on at my house so when I got here I pretty much left straight away, and haven't gotten anything done for the 2nd week in a row. Oh well, I've been knitting pretty much the entire time anyways. I tried on my sweater last night, the body is about halfway done. I've finished with the first hank of black yarn and have to wait until I can add the second one. I hope I can finish the sleeves with only the 2 balls of yarn that I have.

Now that I've got my chainmaille, I hope to power through it pretty quickly, but actually sell some pieces off before I need to order more. I might go back to the other website even though it's more expensive, at least they're not shipping from Canada.

Sorry for the small break in between posts, but as I said, family problems, so I went to a friends house who doesn't really have internet. Sometimes she does, but mostly she doesn't. Not entirely sure how that is. But whatever. I knitted and tried to help clean. and traded beads.

I've learned recently that the best way to get a good selection of beads is to trade some off with other people. I'm rather happy with what I've got in return, and happy to get rid of some of the beads that I had a LOT of. It all works out pretty good. Especially when it turns out like this:

"Oh, I really like those beads!"
"Well, I don't really know what to do with those, so you can pretty much have them all. Oo, those are awesome!"
"I don't ever use those, so take what you want of them!"

Yeah. Anyways. CRAFTING TIME!!!

WIP Wednesday

WIP = Work In Progress

I follow a couple of blogs who have a WIP Wednesday, so since I'm home on Wednesdays and working on stuff that may or may not be finished I decided I will do the same. Because, I usually only post things that I've finished, and sometimes that means I'm not posting projects very often. Sometimes I don't post what I have finished because it's finished and it's not a project anymore though!

So, I started a quilt. My first quilt. So far I hate everything. I'm making 12 square foot blocks, and they are going to have strips in between all of them so there's at least another foot to a foot and a half added in each direction when it's done. My boyfriend liked this one quilt that looked easy enough so I started making that pattern, I wish I started with bigger squares than TWO INCHES.

There are a lot of little squares, there will be 16 in each block, and 12 blocks... I need 192 squares. Thank god I happen to have a rotary cutter.

The other project (that I do hope to finish today) is my tutu. I originally made this tutu to match a pair of cool cat ears a friend got me. Well, I was wearing it the other day (I got a blue and black corset and it's awesome, especially with the tutu!) and I noticed that there are a lot of gaps in between the fabric. It's just tulle tied to a piece of elastic, very simple. I got more tulle, both are sparkly and the blue matches the corset a little better than the blues already in the tutu. Just gotta cut them up and tie them on. Not too hard... Just time consuming. Like cutting tiny little squares and then sewing them together...

The mess of colors is that actual tutu, while the black on the left there is the black tulle I got and the blue beneath the black is the blue that I got. The corset is underneath the blue fabric, I didn't think to get a picture of that also. You can see the corner of it at least! It's pretty.

By the way, I used THIS TUTORIAL to make the tutu. I like how mine sticks OUT instead of down when I wear it... That's how I think it should be. I'm not exactly sure how people even make the kind that lay down more anyways.

I plan on getting pictures of me wearing the "Blue Cat" outfit sometime, I'll be sure to post them because I think it looks cute all put together.

I'm also trying to write a story! Not sure if it will ever turn out... I don't have much ambition to become an author, but I do enjoy typing a LOT, so why not write something? If I decide that it isn't good enough to try to get it published, I think I will post it here in sections. Is that a good idea?
