Yard Sale Stickers

I'm not going to do the 52 weeks of happiness thing anymore. I just have too much of a problem remembering what was this week and what was last week. Even going back and reading my own posts here on blogger and on facebook. I don't really write down what I do doing the day. If I continue doing it it will be on paper, writing things down as they happen. So I can look through it to give myself a bit of happiness when I'm down, which is a lot, lately. I stopped taking my anti-depressants because they're expensive and recently I have finally started noticing all my negativity coming back. Which is not a plus, but oh well. It was to be expected. I will just have to live with it.

You know what makes me happy? The super clean feeling after a shower. You know what doesn't make me  happy? MY FIRE ALARM. It's beeping at me all day today. This usually means the battery is dead, which is ridiculous because they die 2 times a year but we never have had, you know, A FIRE. What really ticks me off is that it's 11:30 at night, it's beeping like it has been all day, but! There isn't even a battery in it. It's connected to all of the other ones in the house (There is one in every single room except our tiny bathrooms) so it still goes off when all the others do. They're really sensitive and they go off often when we are cooking.

I can hear all of them going off, so it wouldn't be a problem that mine doesn't have a battery because of that, however, the most ridiculous thing is that mine is in my doorway. There is one in the hall about 3 feet away. So, even if mine didn't go off, I can hear the one right outside my door.

I'm sure they do save lives, but when they go off 5 times a week you get really annoyed with these things!

I plan to spend tomorrow morning sewing up some T Shirt purses, and maybe some more wallet gloves to sell at the yardsale this weekend. I really want to make about $50 simply to have a goal, but I think that if I do good I can make more. The thing is, this is a yard sale, where people are expecting really low prices, however some of my jewelry are expensive. I have some necklaces that are $25-30, and I'm not willing to lower the prices for a yard sale because... Well, I made this stuff, and the materials were expensive. I need to make a profit.

I have a bunch of books to price tomorrow that will fit yard sale "standard pricing" as well as some clothes, though, and maybe some other stuff if I look around. I'll probably sell the purses for like $5, since they will all be made out of shirts that were given to me. It's a good idea to get rid of some stuff because I hope to move soon. I've been hoping to move soon for a long time though, however now that I have this job (that will certainly lead to other jobs) I hope to actually move soon. I really would like too. I want my cat allowed to live inside again. She wouldn't let me touch her earlier, and I'm worried that she's already getting to the point of hating me. She'll hate me when I bring her to a new place and never let her outside again, though, so I'm prepared for that. She's just going through "teenage years". She's 5 now!

Woot, gettin' things done.

I knitted up the horns last night for the Viking hat, now to figure out how to do the beard. If I can finish it tonight, I can give it to my friend tomorrow. Let's hope! The picture is a little... bright, or something. I didn't really take the time to position the hat so the horns were even, but they're much more even than the picture looks!

My sweater is coming along great! I'm much farther than I've ever gotten on any other clothing-type knit I've tried doing in the past... Not that any of those ever got finished. It's the same colors as the hat, obviously. It should be past my boobs now, and I'm working on the decreases for some shapely-ness. If anyone would like to try this pattern, I've started up a Knit Along here on Craftster, where I'm posting in progress pictures and you can too!

I had a picture of a bracelet, but it didn't turn out too well. The camera I'm using doesn't have a very high quality screen, so I can't tell if the picture is clear or not until it's uploaded onto the computer. Well, the picture of the bracelet didn't turn out clear, sadly. But it's okay. It was just a bunch of random beads anyways. Just different beads than before. I should be more creative anyways! I wanted to show you something finished. Most of my projects right now are taking a while to finish, but at least now I can show you some work!

On to 52 Weeks of Happiness:

  1. I am almost finished with the Viking Hat!
  2. My sweater is turning out, instead of being another UFO/frogged.
  3. I have a camera to use!
  4. I've actually been able to make some crafty things this week!.
Unhappiness: My chainmaille is still in Minnesota. I've been looking up the cities it's been in and it's taking the most ridiculous route EVER. It went from somewhere in Canada close to Washington, to somewhere near the Great Lakes. It hasn't moved since Friday... But Monday is almost over, here, and in Minnesota. It should have at least gone somewhere today. Meh!

52 weeks of happiness and another hat.

So I missed my 52 weeks of happiness day again, but only by 3 hours. I haven't been keeping track of things that make me happy throughout the week, so sometimes I feel like I'm talking about stuff that happened maybe last week. I don't really know. Without school or a job to keep things in perspective for me, I have a hard time thinking of what day stuff happened on. Actually, I had trouble with that during school as well.

Happys:

  1. 3 year anniversary!
  2. My bf and I managed to have a Residents Evil marathon finally.
  3. I learned a movie is coming out based on a book called "The Host"
  4. I finished making my tutu.
No pictures of the tutu yet, but here is an in progress picture of the hat I'm currently knitting for a friend:

It's going to be a viking hat. It'll have a stripe going all the way up the front and down the back. Not sure how it's going to look when I decrease the rows... Probably stupid. I haven't figured out how to do the horns yet, but here's a quick and dirty tutorial on how to knit a hat on size US 9 circular needles:

For an adult male, cast on 88 stitches. For a female do 80. You want it to be a multiple of 4.

Do 2x2 ribbing for 3 inches.

I haven't done the math for 80 stitches, but for 88 stitches, do the first 10 stitches in the contrasting color (In my case red) then do the next 34 in black. Another 10 in red, then the rest black. Continue that all the way through the hat until it's about 2 inches shorter than you want the finished hat to be.

Start decreasing, I haven't gotten to this part yet and I probably won't until later today, but I've learned the way to decrease is to start out knitting 5, the knit 2 together, continue all the way across, then knit a row regularly. The next row, knit 4, knit 2 together. Until you have a few stitches left then bind off and finish the hat off.

For those of you used to reading knitting patterns:

Size US 9 circular needles
Yarn in main and contrast color.

CO 88
2x2 ribbing in CC for 3 inches
K 10, switch to MC and k 34. Switch to CC and k 10. Back to MC and k 35. Continue until 2 inches from top of hat.
Row 1 of decrease: k5, k2tog, repeat.
Row 2 of decrease: k
Row 3 of decrease: k4, k2tog, repeat.
Row 4 of decrease: k

and so on and so forth until you have only a few stitches left.
BO and slip the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight.

When I figure out the horns, I will try to make the most clearest knitting pattern EVER, because so far I've found patterns that don't make sense. Or are crocheted. My bf keeps trying to convince me that no one ever knits beanies and they are all crocheted, but he just doesn't know how to use Google correctly. There are tons of pretty knit hats out there!

EDIT:

Here's another in progress picture, I've got quite a few more inches on it.

52 Weeks of Happiness... Late.

Just a reminder, I do have a facebook page for my blog! For any updates, head on over and like!

I had planned on editing my short post last night with my 4 happys, but instead I went to bed. Or tried to, at least. So here they are, late's better than never:

  1. Hung out with a friend
  2. Made a real dinner for once
  3. Found like 5 new blogs to follow
  4. Found the Squid Pillow.
The squid pillow is happening. I don't know when, I don't know how, but he is going to be made in the future. Hopefully the near future!

Today I want to talk about donating Blood Plasma. For those of you who don't know how you donate JUST blood plasma, instead of whole blood, you get a needle stabbed into your vein in the crook of your arm, a machine starts taking blood out, and puts it in a bowl where it's spun around at about 2000 RPMs a minute I think. This separates the red blood cells from the plasma, and the plasma goes into a bottle. Then the machine returns the red cells to you, through the same needle.

There may not be a Biomat in your town, but there is one in mine and that's how I make my money. Yes. You donate 2x a week and get paid. It's not just doing a good thing anymore... but it's how they get lots of people to do it, therefore getting plenty of plasma for the people who need it.

Most biomats will give you a debit card these days. Mine only recently switched to the card from cold hard cash, but apparently it was one of the last biomats who was giving out cash. It's really annoying, as I have to be able to put money into my REAL bank account, so, I have to go to the ATM in 7-11 in order to get my money out for free, because the card they give you has a ton of restrictions and fees unless you do things their way, including taking out money from specific ATMs. Of course, I have to get a slurpee as well!

You can't just walk in and donate plasma, either. You have to be screened, in which you are tested for iron, protein, asked a bunch of questions pertaining to diseases you may have been in contact with, have your blood pressure and pulse and temperature taken, and when you first start donating, and once a year after that, you have to do a physical. You can't have had any tattoos or piercings in the last year, or have had tattoos revised or any REpiercings. You have to drink enough water, you can't smoke before or after, shouldn't drink alcohol or energy drinks the day of, etc etc. Most people try not to follow the rules, but you might end up permanently deferred from the donating list. I personally go through cycles of having too high a temperature (even though when I check before and after going with 2 different thermometers, they say I'm fine) and then I can't donate, or my iron is too low regardless of the fact that I have been eating steak almost constantly for 2 WEEKS. STRAIGHT. I take expensive vitamins to try to keep my iron and calcium up, and that doesn't work half the time. Ugh.

So, donating blood plasma, if doing it for a good cause, is very rewarding. If you do it ONLY for the money and have never even thought about the fact that you're donating bodily fluids for people in need, it's very frustrating. There's a long wait right now as well, because they're short on staff. Of course, I would LOVE to work there instead of sitting around with a needle in my arm, but I have to stop donating for 6 months in order to apply there, and there's no guarantee that I will get the job. They even train you and you don't need any experience. I did apply anyways but they sent me an email saying they couldn't hire me because I've been donating. Blah, company policy...

Quick & Easy Potato Wedges

Just wanted to share a delicious recipe I figured out sort of recently.

For 1 person, I usually use 3 red potatoes, one big and two small, but you can also use 2 of a medium size if you don't eat as much.

Cut the potatoes in half. Then cut each half into quarters (wedge shaped), then cut the wedges in half short ways, so they are each half a wedge. Look at the picture below for some help with that description...

Put it all on a plate, then drizzle olive oil over them. Add seasonings, I add pepper, salt, cavenders all purpose spice, and garlic powder.

Mix them around with your hands. Then make sure they are all right side up with the skin down on the plate, then microwave for 8 minutes.

For fry sauce, mix together an equal amount of mayo and ketchup.

Quick and easy! Plus delicious!

Also, I guess it WAS Sunday 2 hours ago, so here goes my 4 happys:

  1. I wore my new corset with a tutu I made a long time ago and they look AWESOME together!
  2. I had Terriyaki for breakfast.
  3. I have a great book to read.
  4. Potato Wedges are amazing.

52 Weeks of Happiness and other stuff.

Whoops! I missed my Happiness day, which I've decided will be Sunday. Here's my happy:

  1. My sister came over!
  2. I got people discounts on corsets!
  3. I got a new corset myself!
  4. Food.
Yes, just food. Not a specific kind of  food. Just food. Because when you wake up, take a nice long shower, and eat something, you just feel fantastic! Clean, awake, full....

Anyways. Radcon was awesome. Even more awesome because my sister came this year! I feel like I didn't get to see all of the vendors... I know I definitely didn't get to look at some of them because the amount of people in the room was just too much.

Some of my favorite vendors were there again this year, and I really hope that I can be a vendor myself there one day. I love buying things from a few select people, and telling them so, because it gives them such a boost of confidence. Damsel in This Dress is run by an amazing woman, and I really try to get every girl I know to buy from her. Once you try on one of her corsets, you're usually done. You just NEED one. That happened to my sister this year. I wasn't sure if she was going to buy a corset but she found the perfect one! Of course, I now have 3, but that really means I have 6 because they're pretty much reversible!

There was another vendor selling corsets this year, the type that lace in the back and hook together in the front. Damsel in this Dress has ones that lace in the front. The 2 types of corsets give completely different shapes to your body though! It's very interesting to see the difference.

Another vendor I love to see is a girl who is in the midst of creating her comic series Story of the Door, the first of which is called Toilet Genie. However, I am more interested in her art. She sells prints (and paintings) and this year pillows and bags with art, a lot of which is MLP and Pokemon fan art, among other movies and such. I now have 3 postcard prints, and one bigger print that I got because I think she's awesome and I also plan to be living in an apartment ASAP, and it would be awesome to have some of her art to hang. She signed it, which made me quite happy, I thought it was funny that she asked if she SHOULD sign it, because of course she should! My BF and I paused before saying "yes" at the same exact time, because it was like, "What? Are you really asking if you should sign your own art? Of course you should!"

There are some other vendors I always buy from, others I buy from every OTHER year somehow, and some that only showed up for one year and never came back. The 2 I talked about above came last year for the first time (as vendors at least) and I was happy to see them again this year. I'm also very happy that I didn't opt to NOT pre-register this year because my BF didn't because of his job. It's a good thing he didn't pay though, because he ended up working his butt off the past 2 weeks without a single day off! He was much too exhausted in the time between shifts this weekend to get $35 worth of time at Radcon.

When I get pictures, I will post them up; I didn't take any myself as my camera just eats batteries and I feel like it's useless to use it sometimes...

52 Weeks of Happiness

So I just learned about something called 52 Weeks of Happiness. Basically, every week you post 4 pictures of things that made you happy in the last 7 days. It's a little late to start, but I think I am going to try to do this.

I know that my last post ended up becoming something of a rant, and I apologize for that, as I hoped for this blog to be more about crafting. The thing is, I am (a) Not staying at my dad's house, therefore am not encouraged to make things as I would be while sitting around in my room between applying for jobs, and (b) Horrible at taking pictures! I have a nice camera, but I forget about it. It also eats batteries if I leave them in it, so I have to put the batteries in, take pictures, upload them, then remember to immediately take the batteries out. Whenever I let someone borrow my camera it always comes back with dead batteries, because people tend to just leave the camera on or forget to turn it off after uploading. I'm not sure why it's such a battery devour-er  but it really pisses me off that I ended up with a nice camera that has such a drawback to using it. Otherwise I might have gotten more into the habit of taking pictures, and then I would have all these pictures. You know, of my life in general. I would like to have more pictures to show people in the future, for example my children.

So, some of the pictures might not be taken by me, but the things that might be worthy of being the 4 things that made me happy that I'll post about will most likely be blogs I found, patterns/tutorials I found, or food. My boyfriend refuses to have pictures taken of him while he is as fat as he is, so it's not like I'm going to be able to get pictures of us on Valentine's Day.

In fact, I might not even post pictures. You know what? If I CAN get pictures I will, but if I can't, I will just list off things that made me happy. Because it's a good thing to do. I think that if you write down a few things that made you happy every day, you'll start to have a better outlook on life. I certainly could use that!

Since today is Sunday, and technically it's the beginning of the week, I will write down 4 things that's made me happy now:

1. I'm MOSTLY not sick anymore! I didn't blog about it, but I had the flu!
2.My boyfriend got over the flu MUCH faster than I did! Plus he didn't get it from me!
3. I found an old friend and had a nice, long talk with him. It got a little emotional, well a LOT emotional, but I'm still really happy about it! I wish I had a picture to share with this one, but I won't see him until next week. Even then, he might get called in to work...
4. I found a new blog to start following!
